Let Referrals and AI

Take You to Distant Places

Referrals and AI can be found everywhere, even in places you least expect. In the last issue, a reader responded to the poll I have at the end of all my newsletters.

This reader mentioned that they would like to use AI for travel. So, I decided to devote this newsletter to discussing how referrals and AI can be used in other cities, states, and countries.

And yes, please suggest topics you'd like us to cover.

Here is what we are chatting about today:

FREE Referral Tip of The Month

Tip for Everyone: When traveling on vacation, I can’t emphasize how valuable it is to leave good online reviews for businesses where you experienced excellent service. I traveled summer of 2022 and left a very positive review for a small tour company on Google. Since then (11 months later), that review has been viewed over five thousand times. Think about it, what do you do when you travel? You Google the location and the businesses to determine who you should patronize. You read the reviews, and if there are pictures, that is a bonus. BE THAT REVIEWER that gives the next person the confidence to patronize a small business! That is, of course, if the positive review is earned.

Tip for Entrepreneurs: What business could you make a referral partner in another city? When you can't be in all places simultaneously, form partnerships in other cities with companies that have the same values, professionalism, and service as you. Now you can negotiate referral fees (if permissible in your industry). Of course, this requires you to create a relationship with your clients and to understand their needs (and travel schedule). It also requires you to form lasting relationships with other business owners. That’s called networking! Try it!

Everyday Ways to Use AI with Travel

The key to using AI for travel is finding one that can provide up-to-date information in real-time. Here are a few helpful tips:

  1. Use AI-Based Travel Apps: Apps like Hopper, Skyscanner, and Google Trips use AI to predict the best times for flight and hotel bookings. You can save money by booking when prices are expected to be the lowest.

  2. Write an Itinerary - Use ChatGPT to build an itinerary of activities. Feed it the list of activities and have it give you a day-by-day schedule. ChatGPT's professional version now has travel-related plug-ins, including Expedia and Experiences. Use the plug-ins to organize a great travel experience quickly and easily.

  3.  AI Personal Assistants: Google Assistant, Siri, and Alexa can be convenient while traveling. You can ask them to find nearby attractions, restaurants, give directions, or even set reminders for your itinerary.

  4. AI-Powered Translation Apps: If you're traveling to a country where you don't speak the language, apps like Google Translate can translate text or spoken words in real-time.

  5. Get Personalized Recommendations: Some travel apps can suggest destinations, activities, and attractions based on your past behavior and preferences using AI algorithms.

  6. Get the Best Shopping Tips: When you arrive at your destination, load up your favorite shopping AI. Let AI compare shops for you to find sales, local fares, or places to eat based on criteria and past restaurants you liked.

ChatGPT Prompt for the Month

Tell us about your experiences with AI Technology. We would love to hear how you are using it. Here is our straightforward prompt for the day. You can use ChatGPT or Google Bard on any of the prompts provided.

If you would like ChatGPT to help you with a vacation itinerary, try this prompt:

MY EXAMPLE: Act as a world-traveled travel agent. I am looking for suggestions for summer travel this year. Here is my personality type: I love American History. I particularly like learning about the North American Slave trade and its impact on the food culture of the United States. I like walking tours, art galleries, and restaurants that celebrate American food. I like warm climates and enjoy outdoor festivals and concerts. When I travel, my budget is flexible. For some reference for places I have enjoyed visiting in the past, New Orleans, Puerto Rico, and Florida would be good examples.

ChatGPT’s Response:

ChatGPT gave a very impressive response. They included a couple of cities I have on my bucket list! The following cities with detailed explanations and suggestions for destinations were included. Of course, the accuracy of the specific destinations within the city should be confirmed. But overall, I was impressed!

  • Charleston, South Carolina

  • Savannah, Georgia

  • Washington D.C.

  • Memphis, Tennessee

  • Austin, Texas

THE PROMPT: “Act as a world-traveled travel agent. I am looking for suggestions for [insert time of year] travel this year. Here is my personality type: [insert your personality type, cultures you may want to explore, what activities you like doing while vacationing etc.] When I travel, my budget is [insert your budget flexibility]. For some reference for places I have enjoyed visiting in the past, [insert references to give the AI some references to what you enjoy] would be good examples.

I hope this prompt helps!!
